Principal Scientist (Horticulture)

Ph.D. in Horticulture 1995, University of Agricultural  Sciences, Dharwad, India.

Dr. Karibasappa has 18 years of experience in fruit crop improvement and characterization of genotypes. Dr. Karibasappa’s areas of specialization are fruit crop-genetic resource management, ampelography (taxanomy) and crop improvement (horticulture) through breeding and clonal selections. His future research interests are in non-conventional breeding techniques for grape improvement.

Salient Research Achievements/works

  1.  Identified improved clones of large cardamom for tolerance to specific diseases.

  2. Identified grape varieties for table, juice and raisin making

  3. Characterized mango Germplasm for peninsular Indian conditions.

  4. Introduced and evaluated Kiwi fruit in Sikkim, India.

Seminar / conference 

Dr. Karibasappa had participated in (Plantation crop symposium) PLACROSYM-VIII conference. Held at Cochin, Kerala, India in 1989. He presented research paper on large cardamom.

He has acquired training on

  1. 20th Foundation Course for ARS Scientists at NAARM, Hyderabad

  2. Genetic Resource Management and IPR issues, NBPGR, New Delhi
